To switch self storage software, export your units, tenants and balances from the old system, send the file to Stitch Storage, and we load it for free in 48 hours. You keep renting from your old system until you approve the move. No contract.

Why owners stay on tools they dislike

It is rarely love. It is fear: of losing tenant records, of double billing, of a week with no gate codes. Migration should be planned so none of that happens.

The process, step by step

  1. Start a free trial. No card needed.
  2. Export from your current tool. Units, tenants, leases, balances and payment status. Our guide on how to switch self storage software lists what to pull.
  3. Upload the file. Choose the preset for your system: SiteLink, storEDGE, Easy Storage Solutions, Storage Commander, QuikStor, Syrasoft, or a spreadsheet. Each preset maps columns for you.
  4. Read the validation report. It flags missing fields, duplicates and balance mismatches before anything is loaded.
  5. Run a dry run. See the result without changing live data.
  6. Sign off. In the done-for-you option, you upload the export and we complete the migration with your approval. A 150-unit facility is targeted for under 48 hours.
  7. Connect Stripe. You create an Express account so rent goes to your own Stripe account.
  8. Tell tenants about autopay. See below.
  9. Roll back if needed. The import can be undone.

The autopay note

Card and bank details are held by your old payment processor, and a payment processor often cannot hand them to a new vendor. Plan for tenants to re-enter their payment method in Stripe Elements. Bank (ACH) payments need a new mandate, and Stripe says they can take up to 4 business days to confirm. Warn tenants a week ahead, and do not turn on late fees until autopay is confirmed.

Worked example

Say you have 120 units, 108 occupied, at $95 average. You export Friday. The validation report finds 2 duplicate tenants and 1 balance that does not add up. You fix them by 5 p.m. The dry run passes Saturday. Monday morning you go live. That is a monthly rent roll of 108 x $95 = $10,260 in place, with no weekend of typing.

Checklist before you switch

TaskDone
Export all data and keep a copy
Note your old contract end date
List tenants on autopay
Plan the tenant message
Pick the first of the month to avoid half-billed cycles

Cost

Migration is free. Then Starter $39 a month (up to 50 units) or Pro $99 a month (unlimited), with a 0.3% platform fee on rent processed. Price lock, no contracts, and export your data anytime. Read switch to Stitch, the SiteLink alternative page and the storEDGE alternative page.

What to export from your current system

Ask your old vendor for as much as they will give. A good export has:

  • Unit number, size, type, asking rate and status.
  • Tenant name, phone, email and mailing address.
  • Lease start date, rent amount and billing day.
  • Current balance and last payment date.
  • Autopay flag, if available.
  • Notes and lien status for any delinquent tenant.

If the old tool cannot export everything, send what you can, plus a screen print of the rent roll. We will tell you in the validation report what is missing. Some vendors make exporting slow or manual. A spreadsheet of your rent roll is a fine fallback.

What to tell tenants

Send one short message a week before the switch: who you are, that the payment page is changing, the date, and what they need to do. Plain words work best. For example: "We are moving to a new payment system on the 1st. You will get a link to confirm your card. Your rent amount does not change."

Timing the switch

Pick a day just after the 1st, once the month's rent has been collected in the old system. This keeps the opening balances small and limits double billing. Run both systems side by side for a short time if you need to, then close the old one when you are sure.

What if something is wrong after import

Use the rollback to undo the import, fix the file and try again. Imported balances are labeled "Opening balance" in the ledger, so you can tell them from new charges.

After the switch

  1. Check three tenants end to end: ledger, lease, code.
  2. Run the rent roll and compare it to the old one.
  3. Confirm Stripe payouts on the first payment day.
  4. Cancel the old tool when you are confident, and check its terms first.
